About the role

A humanoid maker is hiring a staff-level controls engineer to lift the quality of its whole motion-control stack, then go wherever the hardest problem is. That covers whole-body control for a wheeled-base robot and a biped, learned hand control trained in simulation, mobile manipulation and teleoperation. The job is a technical multiplier, not a single-feature owner.

What you'll do

  • Own the architecture, real-time performance, testing and long-term health of the controls stack
  • Coordinate the base or legs with upper-body manipulation through whole-body control on both platforms
  • Move between learned hand control (RL in simulation), mobile manipulation, teleoperation and estimation as priorities shift
  • Take model-based and learning-based methods from simulation through hardware bring-up to deployment
  • Push speed, payload, reliability and safety, with measured results
  • Set technical direction across locomotion, manipulation, teleoperation, RL and estimation, and mentor through design and code review

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in robotics, CS, EE or ME, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years in robot controls (4+ with a PhD), with controllers you got working on physical hardware
  • Kinematics, dynamics, state estimation and optimization or control theory
  • Whole-body control (WBC/OSC, QP-based control or MPC) on legged or wheeled systems
  • Reinforcement learning applied to robot control, trained in simulation
  • Real-time C++ and Python

Nice to have

  • Controllers shipped to a production fleet
  • Dexterous or in-hand manipulation, or legged locomotion
  • Safety-critical or certified software (ISO 13849, ISO 10218, IEC 61508)

Pay & benefits

USD 300k–350k base. Direct hire. The source posting states the annual pay range above; it lists no further benefits.

Visa path

The posting places no citizenship or U.S.-person restriction on the role. Staff-level controls engineers usually have the record an O-1A needs: papers at ICRA, RSS or CoRL, controllers that shipped, open-source work, a clearly critical role, and pay well above the field median. If your evidence is there, an employer like this can file for you, or an agent can file for work with more than one company.
