About the role
The company is extending beyond battery materials into domestic cylindrical cell manufacturing and needs a first engineer to define how cells will be built. This person specifies new production lines, selects equipment and prepares processes for handoff to operations. The role connects cell design choices with equipment capability and line architecture.
What you'll do
- Evaluate manufacturing process and equipment designs, flag critical decisions and advise on cell design.
- Define equipment requirements and lead technical discussions with suppliers, including design reviews and project tracking.
- Oversee equipment installation and plan and run detailed acceptance tests, including travel to supplier sites.
- Direct process development for the new cylindrical cell line.
- Lead the handoff of developed processes to the operations team.
- Work with materials, anode manufacturing and battery engineering groups to produce advanced cells.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of lithium-ion cell manufacturing experience, including cylindrical cell equipment design and line bring-up.
- Experience level equal to 12 years with a bachelor's in engineering or physical science, 8 years with a master's, or 5 years with a PhD, or equivalent.
- Ability to apply mechanical fundamentals and outside experience to design decisions.
- Demonstrated project management across internal teams and external vendors.
- Experience building safety, automation and data collection requirements into equipment specifications.
