About the role
This team makes sure models that handle text, speech and images behave safely as products become more interactive and move onto new device types. The role develops the research, training methods and evaluations that connect how a model perceives its surroundings to how it should respond. It suits people who bridge vision and language modeling and who have strong safety judgment.
What you'll do
- Define and advance safety research across text, vision and audio, linking perception and semantic understanding to safe behavior.
- Build training and evaluation methods for vision-language models, including post-training and safety evaluations.
- Design interventions that help models respond appropriately across varied contexts and user intents.
- Diagnose model failures through rigorous error analysis and turn findings into robust improvements.
- Partner with product, device and model-training teams to bring research into safer ambient and personalized multimodal experiences.
Requirements
- Track record of building or advancing multimodal models, such as vision-language, video, image generation or audio models.
- Understanding of multimodal systems end to end, from encoders and modality fusion to cross-modal reasoning and inference tradeoffs.
- Experience improving frontier model behavior through post-training such as supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, data curation and synthetic data.
- Strong research judgment for forming testable hypotheses and designing decisive experiments and evaluations.
- Ability to work on open-ended safety problems with both research and engineering skill.
