About the role
A health-focused research team works across the full model stack, from pretraining through reinforcement learning and deployment, to improve how frontier models handle medical questions. The role is for a hands-on researcher who can take an underdefined health problem from idea to a measurable improvement in shipped models. What you'll do
- Own a research direction end to end, from choosing the problem and how to measure it to integrating results into frontier models.
- Develop scalable methods across pretraining, midtraining, RL and post-training to improve health reasoning, reliability and calibration.
- Build and study RL environments grounded in real health problems and learn which setups give robust gains.
- Create trustworthy, unsaturated evaluations that show whether models are improving for patients and clinicians.
- Build models and agents that work over longitudinal, multimodal health data to support predictions and decisions.
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, clinicians and product teams to bring capabilities into products.
Requirements
- Strong track record in machine learning or AI research in pretraining, RL or post-training, or evals, or deep experience in frontier biomedical AI.
- Hands-on ability to design experiments, write and debug code, and work with data and training infrastructure.
- Strong research taste in separating important problems from merely interesting ones.
- Ability to own ambiguous problems end to end and learn what is missing.
- Willingness to work in San Francisco on a hybrid schedule of three office days per week.
Nice to have
- Experience with health AI, longitudinal health data or clinical research.
