About the role

This role joins the services team early in the life of a new neutral-atom quantum computer. In the first phase the engineer helps integrate subsystems delivered by internal and external teams. Later the work shifts to turning the machine into a product and running it as a commercial and internal service.

What you'll do

  • Integrate and test new hardware and software features and subsystems as the machine is built.
  • Work with a machine build task force and with internal and external engineering teams to bring their subsystem deliveries together.
  • Take growing responsibility for operations, tuning performance, reliability, uptime and running cost.
  • Build and enable a team of operators so the machine can support a dependable commercial service.
  • Work with software teams on the stack that makes the quantum computer programmable.
  • Support users and customers and turn their needs into the machine's roadmap.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in experimental atomic, molecular and optical physics or a related field.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience building or operating a neutral-atom or trapped-ion system, in a Ph.D. or otherwise.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in working with customers and end users and turning their needs into features.
  • Programming skills and a basic understanding of software architectures.
  • Research success shown by peer-reviewed publications or scientific talks, and willingness to provide on-call support.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with quantum error correction and fault-tolerant architectures.
  • Familiarity with modern AI workflows for automation.

Pay & benefits
