About the role

This individual-contributor role builds manufacturable, deployable neutral-atom quantum computers and the systems around them. The engineer works in the lab alongside the science, hardware engineering and software engineering teams. The role combines deep physics knowledge with hands-on experimental work.

What you'll do

  • Assemble and bring up neutral-atom quantum computer systems and their subsystems in a laboratory setting.
  • Work with free-space optics, lasers, RF systems, holography and ultra-high-vacuum equipment to build working machines.
  • Write Python code on Linux to run, automate and analyze experiments.
  • Operate data acquisition systems and apply data analysis techniques to evaluate machine performance.
  • Produce mechanical designs in CAD for the systems being built.
  • Coordinate with science, hardware and software teams and adapt quickly as priorities shift.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in physics, engineering or a related field, or an equivalent level of industry experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on lab experience, such as with free-space optics, lasers, RF systems, holography or UHV systems.
  • Proficiency coding in Python and working on Linux.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience with CAD software.
  • Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced start-up.

Nice to have

  • PhD in engineering, applied physics or a related field.
  • Background in quantum physics and quantum computing.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor.

Pay & benefits

USD 135k–185k base + equity. The posting states equity grants for all new hires alongside the base salary. It lists no other benefits.

Visa path

People in quantum hardware roles often support an O-1A case with evidence such as peer-reviewed publications, patents, citations, original contributions to experimental systems, and a high salary relative to the field. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this or a U.S. agent can file the petition, and approval depends on the individual's evidence.
