About the role

This role owns the detailed design of electro-optic modules, such as rack-mountable boxes and blade assemblies, that sit inside a photonic quantum computing system. The engineer turns system requirements from a hardware architect into build-ready designs and carries them through prototype, verification and handoff to manufacturing. The work spans optical amplifiers, attenuators, polarization control, power monitoring and the control electronics around them.

What you'll do

  • Design electro-optic modules from requirements and concept selection through prototype build, EVT, DVT and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Turn system requirements into interface definitions, optical power and noise budgets, schematics, bills of materials, mechanical layouts and tolerance analyses.
  • Run trade studies on noise, stability, dynamic range, thermal behavior, reliability, cost and schedule, and record the decisions and remaining risks.
  • Plan and run bring-up, characterization, margin, environmental and fault-injection testing, automating measurements where practical.
  • Write verification requirements, test plans, procedures and reports, and lead root-cause work on failures found in EVT and DVT.
  • Direct contract manufacturers and specialist vendors on statements of work, design reviews, prototype acceptance and yield or quality problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering or a related field, plus substantial industry experience.
  • Track record owning electro-optic or opto-mechanical hardware design through prototype, qualification and manufacturing release.
  • Hands-on knowledge of fiber-optic parts including amplifiers, attenuators, polarization control, power monitoring and photodetection.
  • Experience integrating optics with analog and digital electronics, thermal management, packaging, connectors and power distribution in rack or blade equipment.
  • Skill writing requirements, interface-control documents, verification matrices, test procedures and formal test reports.
  • Experience leading EVT/DVT, structured debugging and corrective-action closure, and managing vendors while keeping configuration control.

Nice to have

  • Experience with high-power or low-noise optical amplification, photonic calibration, metrology, quantum photonics or precision instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with laser and electrical safety, EMI/EMC, environmental qualification and reliability methods.
  • Experience building automated lab or production test systems in Python or similar tools.

Visa path

People in advanced photonic and quantum hardware roles often support an O-1A case with patents, peer-reviewed papers, evidence of critical roles at distinguished organizations, and expert recommendation letters. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this or a U.S. agent can file the petition, and approval depends on the individual's own record.
