About the role

This role runs the battery characterization program for second-life battery systems that supply power to data centers. The engineer decides what gets tested and how, and turns open-ended performance and compliance questions into test protocols. The resulting data feeds site operating parameters, battery models and control algorithms.

What you'll do

  • Turn performance and compliance questions into test matrices, channel allocations and schedules.
  • Run several test and screening campaigns at once across cell, module and pack level, including cycler programming, monitoring and failure root-cause analysis.
  • Recommend and plan lab equipment purchases such as cyclers and chambers, fixture design and channel capacity as the program grows.
  • Analyze test results and present clear conclusions to technical and non-technical audiences to support pack qualification decisions.
  • Improve test methods and write automation scripts to get more insight from limited channels and time.
  • Work with the battery software and data engineering team to define and validate automated characterization workflows.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in mechanical, chemical, materials, electrical engineering or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Solid understanding of lithium-ion cell behavior, operating limits, failure modes and degradation mechanisms.
  • Hands-on electrochemical characterization experience, such as HPPC, EIS, dQ/dV analysis and cycle life testing.
  • Data analysis and scripting skills in Python or MATLAB.
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting battery cycler platforms such as Arbin, Maccor or Neware.

Nice to have

  • Experience using AI coding assistants.
  • Background in EV battery pack qualification or validation programs.
  • Familiarity with battery safety and compliance standards such as UN38.3, UL2580 and UL1974.

Visa path

Engineers in battery testing and validation often support an O-1A case with evidence such as published or patented work on cell degradation, critical technical roles at recognized battery organizations, peer review or conference talks, and a salary at the high end of the field. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this one, or a U.S. agent acting for the candidate, can file the petition; approval depends on the individual's record.
