About the role

This team is building metal-air fuel cells that run on a fuel made from recycled metals. The scientist designs molecular electrocatalysts to raise the power, efficiency and energy density of those cells. The work starts in the lab and moves toward pilot and production-intent systems.

What you'll do

  • Design and synthesize molecular electrocatalysts that improve power, efficiency and energy density in metal-air fuel cells
  • Identify structure-property relationships and work out how catalysts act and how they fail
  • Turn those findings into improved catalyst designs
  • Source new ligands and complexes from outside vendors for screening and scale-up
  • Scope custom syntheses and judge their feasibility and cost
  • Work with the product development team to move the technology from lab to pilot and production-intent systems

Requirements

  • Track record designing and synthesizing molecular functional materials, such as coordination complexes, redox-active organics, molecular catalysts, dyes or flow-battery active materials
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Results-oriented approach with a strong sense of urgency
  • Willingness to work on-site full time in Hayward, CA

Nice to have

  • Experience with electrochemical systems such as fuel cells, flow batteries or electrolyzers

Pay & benefits

USD 130k–175k base. The posting lists competitive salary and equity, unlimited PTO, fully employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage, and a 401(k) plan.

Visa path

People in electrochemistry and catalyst research typically build an O-1A case from peer-reviewed publications, patents, citations, invited talks, peer-review service and a critical role in technical development. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this, or a U.S. agent, can file an O-1 petition, though approval depends on the individual's evidence.
