About the role
This scientist runs computational protein design campaigns for therapeutic programs and sits between the machine learning and experimental platform teams. The work turns therapeutic hypotheses into design and data-generation plans, then feeds what is learned back into the design methods. The role exists to make AI-designed proteins and lab data work together efficiently.
What you'll do
- Plan and run end-to-end protein design campaigns that translate a therapeutic hypothesis into design strategy, data needs and technical milestones.
- Identify recurring capability gaps, successful approaches and failure modes, and turn them into better design methods and workflows.
- Act as the link between computational model developers and experimental teams, using biochemical judgment to shape informative experiments and read complex assay results.
- Help build agent-enabled computational workflows that connect scientific information, protein design models, data and tools, and judge how reliable their outputs are.
- Write clear, data-driven design recommendations that tie molecular observations to program decisions, documenting assumptions and limitations.
- Work with program, experimental and computational colleagues in a fast-moving cross-functional team.
Requirements
- PhD in protein engineering, biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology, computational biology, bioinformatics or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience setting protein design strategy, such as de novo design, protein optimization, protein or antibody engineering.
- Solid grasp of how protein sequence and structure relate to molecular properties and function.
- Experience with experimental design and interpreting complex biological datasets to guide design choices.
- Working proficiency in Python, with the ability to build reproducible analyses and workflows.
- Ability to communicate technical risks and tradeoffs to cross-functional audiences and to decide with incomplete information.
Nice to have
- Experience with machine learning, statistical modeling, AI-agent workflows, workflow orchestration or programmatic interfaces, though the posting says this can be developed in the role.
