About the role
This scientist joins the services team early in the life of a new fault-tolerant quantum computer. The focus is automated calibration, performance benchmarking and models that explain and predict machine behavior. The aim is to make a complex experimental apparatus stable enough to offer as a dependable service.
What you'll do
- Develop and automate calibration routines and work with hardware and software teams to put them in the control stack.
- Design and run benchmarking protocols that track system and subsystem performance against product requirements.
- Build and validate models from physical error mechanisms up to full-system behavior.
- Act as the link between hardware, software and applications teams, keeping calibration, benchmarking and models consistent as the system changes.
- Feed findings back into the product and service to make the machine a reliable compute resource.
Requirements
- PhD in experimental or computational atomic, molecular and optical physics, quantum information or a related field.
- Hands-on experience characterizing, calibrating or modeling a neutral-atom, trapped-ion or comparable quantum system.
- Programming skills and a basic understanding of software architecture.
- Strong communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Research success shown by peer-reviewed publications or scientific talks.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with quantum error correction and fault-tolerant architectures.
- Familiarity with modern AI workflows for automation.
Pay & benefits
USD 130k–210k base + equity. The posting states equity grants for all new hires in addition to the base salary range.

Visa path
Scientists in this kind of role often support O-1A petitions with peer-reviewed publications, conference talks, and evidence of significant contributions to quantum system performance. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this, or a U.S. agent, can file the petition, and approval depends on the individual's evidence.
