About the role
This team designs the helium and nitrogen cryogenic process and distribution systems that cool a large-scale quantum computer across several sites. The manager sets the overall architecture linking cryoplants, cryostats, piping and storage, and builds the engineering group that delivers it. The role exists to make sure the cooling infrastructure is safe, efficient and maintainable as the machines scale.
What you'll do
- Define the architecture for integrating cryoplants, cryostats, distribution lines and auxiliary equipment.
- Produce process calculations, hydraulic analyses, PFDs, P&IDs and operating philosophies.
- Lead HAZOPs and other process safety reviews against applicable codes.
- Size and specify warm and cold piping, valves, heat exchangers, phase separators and transfer lines.
- Support vendor selection, factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning and performance testing.
- Hire, mentor and set standards for the process and distribution engineering team.
Requirements
- Master's or Ph.D. in mechanical, chemical, cryogenic or a related engineering field (bachelor's with extensive experience considered).
- 10+ years designing and operating large-scale helium and nitrogen cryogenic systems.
- Strong grounding in cryogenic thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer and hydraulics.
- Demonstrated experience with PFDs, P&IDs, HAZOPs and process safety.
- Experience working with EPC contractors and cryogenic equipment manufacturers.
- Willingness to travel internationally for manufacturing, installation and commissioning.

Visa path
Senior cryogenic and quantum-infrastructure engineers often support an O-1A case with evidence such as leading large technical projects, high compensation, judging or peer review, publications or patents, and recognition from industry peers. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this, or a U.S. agent, can file an O-1A petition for a qualified candidate, though approval depends on the individual's evidence.
