Role familyExperimental Test Pilot (eVTOL / New Aircraft)

About the role

An electric air-taxi company needs a test pilot to plan and fly experimental fly-by-wire aircraft that take off like helicopters and cruise like airplanes, and to support the flights that will certify them. Formal test pilot training matters here, and so does the flexibility to apply classic flight-test discipline to a new kind of aircraft.

What you'll do

  • Plan and fly test points as pilot in command, flying both remotely piloted and crewed aircraft, and fly chase
  • Run simulator testing and failure-modes and effects testing
  • Sit on flight readiness and test safety reviews
  • Act as flight-test engineer when needed: write test cards, direct tests from the control room
  • Debrief, analyze and report each flight
  • Keep documentation to company and FAA standards

Requirements

  • Long-course graduate of a recognized test pilot school (equivalent on-the-job training only by exception)
  • 3+ years of flight test after school, including 50+ hours of experimental or certification testing as test pilot
  • 1,000+ hours pilot in command
  • Commercial certificate, fixed wing and/or rotorcraft
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience and training
  • Proficient spoken and written English, and willingness to work extended hours and travel

Nice to have

  • Both fixed-wing and rotary-wing flight test, mainly fixed wing
  • Powered-lift or V/STOL experience (AV-8, F-35B or V-22)
  • FAA certification flight test, or a flight test DER or AR appointment
  • Flight instruction or test pilot school instruction
  • Time on all-electric aircraft

Pay & benefits

USD 175,648–254,805 base, plus restricted stock units. Base pay plus restricted stock units. The posting lists paid time off, health benefits, a 401(k) with company match, an employee stock purchase plan, disability and life insurance.

Visa path

The source posting states no citizenship restriction. Test pilots are a tiny global pool, and the evidence is concrete: test pilot school, the programs you flew, flight-test awards, and pay well above line flying. That fits the O-1A. Some aviation employers want existing U.S. work authorization for other roles, so we check each one with you. Line pilots usually use other visas, such as the E-3 for Australians or the H-1B1 for Chile and Singapore.
