About the role
This role sits in the guidance, navigation and control and performance group, which defines and analyzes how the launch vehicle flies from liftoff to landing. The engineer builds and extends the six-degree-of-freedom simulation that the team uses to develop flight algorithms, run Monte Carlo studies and support hardware-in-the-loop testing.
What you'll do
- Contribute to the six-degree-of-freedom simulation used for GNC algorithm development, Monte Carlo analysis and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Work with analysis and hardware teams to build subsystem models and integrate them into the simulation.
- Implement numerical solvers and physics models.
- Build simulation configuration, scheduling, logging and Monte Carlo capabilities.
- Develop the interfaces between the simulation and GNC algorithms.
- Maintain and improve the development environment for simulation users, and contribute to other cross-functional software packages.
Requirements
- Bachelor's, master's or PhD in engineering, physics, mathematics or a related field.
- Proficiency in a compiled language such as C++ or Rust and a scripted language such as Python.
- Experience developing physics-based simulations.
- Relevant student team, research, internship or full-time experience.
- Ability to own end-to-end solutions with a high degree of independence in a fast-paced startup setting.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the design and analysis of launch vehicles or space systems.
- Experience building aerospace vehicle simulations that interface with GNC algorithms or hardware-in-the-loop testing.
- Experience implementing high-performance computing solutions.
- Experience with Docker, continuous integration and continuous deployment workflows.

Visa path
People in GNC and simulation roles typically support an O-1A with evidence such as published research, patents or technical papers, original contributions to flight software or simulation tools, judging or peer-review work, and a high salary relative to the field. This is an entry-level posting, so it suits candidates who already have a strong record such as research output or recognized awards. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this one, or a U.S. agent, can file the petition, and approval depends on the individual's evidence.
