About the role
This role sits on a real-time cinematics team that makes trailers and short-form content for a major online game. The director shapes story, tone and comedic character performance, and builds sequences directly in a real-time engine. The team is growing quickly and pushes cinematic-quality visuals in real time.
What you'll do
- Define the creative vision, story, tone and visual language for game trailers and short-form pieces together with fellow directors and discipline leads.
- Develop and pitch original story and comedy ideas and carry them from early concept to final delivery.
- Build and iterate shot sequences hands-on in a real-time engine's sequencing tool.
- Turn scripts and storyboards into shots through composition, camera movement, performance and pacing.
- Run several trailers at once while folding in feedback from marketing, art direction and game direction.
- Work with animation, layout, lighting, FX, production and technical art, and with the animation director on motion capture and scene assembly.
Requirements
- A reel or portfolio showing short-form directing, character-driven storytelling and comedic instincts.
- Directing experience in animation, trailers, commercials, digital shorts, games or similar short-form work.
- Strong cinematic fundamentals: shot design, composition, camera, editing, pacing and performance.
- Hands-on experience with a real-time engine and its sequencing tool, plus familiarity with its rigging workflows.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and communicate creative intent across technical and art teams.
Nice to have
- Experience directing actors or running performance or motion capture sessions.
- Background in animation, storyboarding, editing or visual development.
- Familiarity with modeling, skinning, rigging or technical art.
- Interest in procedural and AI-assisted animation and filmmaking tools.
- Scripting or technical art knowledge such as Python or visual scripting.
