About the role
This role sits in the RNA chemistry group of a technology development and operations team that builds manufacturing processes for gene editing medicines. The scientist makes long guide RNAs by solid-phase synthesis and purifies them, supporting both IND-enabling and GLP/GMP batches. The work links process development in the lab to clinical-stage manufacturing.
What you'll do
- Run solid-phase synthesis of long guide RNA and the downstream purification steps, including chromatography, tangential flow filtration and lyophilization, at several scales.
- Carry out hands-on manufacturing of IND-enabling and GLP/GMP RNA guides for gene editing programs.
- Write technical reports, standard operating procedures, draft batch records and sections of regulatory submissions.
- Maintain synthesizers, purifiers, preparative HPLC and filtration skids so they stay in working condition.
- Review experimental data with colleagues and feed the findings into process designs ready for manufacturing.
- Apply AI tools to CMC tasks and help evaluate new technologies for product quality and process robustness.
Requirements
- BS or MS in biotechnology, engineering, chemistry, biochemistry or a related life science; ideally 3+ years of industry experience with a BS or 1+ years with an MS.
- Experience in chemistry process development of complex biomolecules.
- Hands-on experience running process development equipment and unit operations, and a GMP manufacturing background including equipment qualification and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of statistical software such as JMP for process analysis and data visualization.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work both independently and in a fast-paced team.
Nice to have
- Experience with oligonucleotide synthesis or downstream purification.
- Hands-on experience with equipment typically used to develop and make RNA.
- Experience writing standard operating procedures and draft batch records.

Visa path
People in gene editing process and manufacturing roles typically support an O-1A case with a record of publications or patents, documented contributions to GMP or IND-enabling work, recommendation letters from experts, and evidence of a high salary or critical role. This is an associate-level position, so the fit depends on how strong the candidate's individual record is. The posting states no citizenship restriction. An employer like this or a U.S. agent can file the petition, and approval is never assured.
